Building Microsoft System Center Cloud – SCOM 2012 R2 – Install Management Packs

Import Management Packs

After installation of the management servers the SCOM is only an empty skeleton (framework) and we have to fill it with the logic how to do monitoring. Management Packs are essentially filters that are giving to us only those information that we want. We can monitor by SCOM almost anything but there are big differences how to monitor for example physical HP servers and how to monitor Windows Servers or Active Directory. These Management Packs (MPs) are not included by default because SCOM can be used for different purposes in various environments.

  • Import Management Packs
  • Import from the catalog. Some Management Packs can be imported only from disk but in our case we will import common MPs. MPs that have to be imported from the disk are labeled by Online Catalog Only and it is required to download the .msi and import it from disk.
  • We will start with monitoring core OSs of our Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 machines.
  • Get dependencies (get required Management Packs for the chosen MPs).
  • Check status.
  • And we also should monitor our DB server – Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Packs
